Valley of the Roses

About Valley of the Roses

In 1996 we were gifted with a sweet little bar of homemade marbleized oatmeal soap. We used it right up and wanted more, so decided to try our hands at making a batch in our country kitchen. Family and friends were the first to receive our unevenly cut chunks of soap. We discovered beautiful molds and cosmetic clays and a never ending array of essential oils and were inspired with encouragement from our community to unleash our creative juices. We have since moved to a larger space and combined many variations of color, texture and aroma to offer ten varieties that are highly received and pleasant for your skin.

From the very beginning we made a commitment to use only natural ingredients, and as many ingredients supplied from our local community as possible. We are not seduced into using fragrance oils. We make small batches of cold process soap, stirring the oils combined with lye until it thickens, pouring it into molds and letting it sit undisturbed for a couple of days before turning it out and hand cutting the partially cured soap into bars or popping the saponified solution from its molds. The cut or molded bars of soap are then cured in our ventilated trays for three to four weeks before they are ready to use and will last longer if allowed to dry between uses. Because our soap is handmade in small batches to ensure freshness and quality, slight variations between batches occur and add to the charm of the soaps.
